Annual Meeting at Swedish American Hall – Feb 1, 2026

Before we dove into the official business, the afternoon kicked off at 1:00 PM with a social hour. About 40 people showed up and it was fantastic to see so many familiar faces and welcome several newcomers over drinks and mingling. Whether it was catching up on Tahoe ski conditions or sharing stories from the holidays, that first moment of social time set the perfect tone for a productive and club-focused afternoon.

At 1:37 PM, the meeting was officially called to order. Our outgoing President, Jeanette Flodell, opened with a look back at a truly amazing 2025 with plenty of parties and events. We celebrated our 75th Anniversary, a milestone few clubs ever reach, with a fantastic party at the Swedish American Hall, and due to the major power outage of the City, right before Christmas we got to enjoy a magical candle-light Christmas dinner to name a few.

Finances

The YSC remains in a strong financial position, thanks in large part to a very generous donation from the estate of Lisa Wiborg. While our day-to-day revenue vs. expenses remains steady, this donation provides a vital cushion for our long-term goals.

  • Tahoe Cabin: Maintenance was light this year (always a win!), but we’re planning a Tahoe kitchen renovation for 2026. We’re estimating a budget of $10k–$25k to bring that space up to date.
  • Clear Lake: The dock rebuilding project is in the home stretch! Two old sections are left to replace. We also honored Eric Jensen, who recently passed away, for his years of tireless dedication to keeping Clear Lake ship-shape.
  • A Note on Insurance: Costs are rising across the board. The board will be looking for ways to streamline website costs and increase cabin usage to stay ahead of these premiums.

Membership

Our community is thriving, growing from 330 to 369 memberships, which, considering that each family membership is at least two people, means that we have somewhere between 500 and 600 members. Most of the new members are finding us through word-of-mouth, which is pretty consistent with past years.

Elections

This year, the membership voted to expand the board to 11 positions. We want to extend a massive “Thank You” to Jeanette Flodell, who has been president for the past three years, and Kara DeWalt, as they step down. Jesper Lundbaek’s and Dave Conroy’s terms were also up but they offered to stay for another three year term and were voted in by acclamation.

Seven people were nominated to fill the four remaining spots on the board, and after the ballots were collected and counted, Christopher Tevren, Elsa Putur, Polina Pribytkova and Anne Buike had been elected to join the board together with incumbents, Henrik Flodell, Johan Backman, Jesper Lundbaek, Dave Conroy, Andreas Holm, Lala Flink and Peter Nordström.

Big thanks to the remaining three nominees, Aaron Walker, Stefan Gustafsson and Solveig Barnes Peete for offering to step up and help run the club. We certainly hope to see you running for the board next year.

Before adjourning the meeting we thanked the outgoing president Jeanette Flodell for having served as an outstanding president for the past three years.

After the elections the meeting was adjourned at 5:10 PM.

How you can help and support the club

  1. Rent Clear Lake: It’s available all year! Only $25/night for individuals in the summer, or rent the whole cabin for just $100 in the winter.
  2. Join a Committee: We are looking for volunteers for the committees, send an e-mail to info@ysc.org to let us know what you’d like to help out with
  3. Clear Lake Work Weekends: We’ll be announcing dates soon. Even if you aren’t a construction pro, there’s a job for everyone!
