Overview

Since 1993 the YSC has proudly owned its very own cabin just minutes from the west shore of the famous and beautiful Lake Tahoe. The Lake Tahoe area offers a long list of outdoor activities, including world class skiing in the winter, spectacular hiking and biking in the summer, and breath-taking views all year long.

The YSC offers its members and guests inexpensive accommodations. The cabin is fully equipped and modern, has seven bedrooms and three bathrooms, and sleeps 15 people comfortably. It is located just south of Tahoe City near the lake’s west shore, and very close to Homewood Ski Resort. Squaw Valley (site of the 1960 Winter Olympics) and Alpine Meadows ski resorts are about a 20 minute drive away.

Be sure to take advantage of this wonderfully located cabin and explore the year-round recreation that the Lake Tahoe region has to offer.

Getting There

2685 Cedar Lane, Homewood, CA 96141

You will nearly certainly arrive by car, as the public transportation possibilities are almost non-existent. Carpooling can be arranged (and is encouraged).  Drivers should bring a Northern California map.

Directions from Bay Area

  • From the Bay Area, take I-80 towards Reno.
  • At Truckee, take the Hwy 89 exit and go south.
  • At Tahoe City, stay on Hwy 89 by going right at the first light.
  • After 3 miles, turn right onto Timberland Lane at the Timberland totem pole.
  • Turn left onto Cedar Lane and look for the cabin on your left.

WINTER DRIVING NOTICE

During the winter, you are required to carry snow chains or drive a four-wheel drive with snow tires. Always check the road conditions and weather forecast before you drive in the mountains.

PARKING

Parking is very limited. Carpool if you can, and expect to have to shuffle cars during your stay. Cars parked on the street are subject to towing. Blocking a neighbors’ driveway access will increase your chance of being towed.

Prices & Reservation

SUMMER DEALS

Between May and Thanksgiving, the entire cabin can be reserved for for up to 17 people. The cost for that is $285 per weekend night and only $240 per week night. It is also possible to rent the cabin more than one month ahead of time during this period. E-mail tahoe@ysc.org for more information about the summer specials.
Special arrangements are sometimes made at the discretion of the cabin manager.

RESERVATIONS

To ensure access to as many members as possible, reservations are taken no more than one month in advance, and no member may hold more than one weekend reservation at once. However, this does not prevent you from putting yourself on the waiting list for additional weekends. You must reserve your stay before going up to the cabin, and final confirmation does not occur until payment is received. If payment has not been received by the cabin master within 7 days of the reservation date, the reservation in question may be removed from the YSC reservation system. Non-members must be accompanied by their sponsoring member, and there is a limit of one guest per member during peak ski season. The cabin master reserves the right to assign rooms in certain situations.
Reserve your spot by going to the online reservation system. If you have specific questions you can contact the Tahoe Cabin Master by email at tahoe@ysc.org or by leaving a message at (415) 346-7450.

PAYMENTS

Reservations must be paid online. Paying online at the time of your reservation via credit card or PayPal or electronic check are HIGHLY PREFERRED. Payments not received by the cabin master within 5 business days will render the reservation in question subject to cancellation. Send checks, payable to “YSC”, to:

YSC Tahoe Cabin,
Jesper Lundbaek
343 The Alameda
San Anselmo, CA 94960

NOTE: If you want to pay by check or money order, you must e-mail tahoe@ysc.org to make reservations and arrangements.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Weekend/Holiday reservations cancelled less than 7 days prior to date of arrival are subject to forfeiture of one night’s fee per person. Any reservation not cancelled prior to date of arrival will result in forfeiture of the entire fee for each person in the party. Members are fully responsible for payments and actions of their guests. Cancellations due to road closures should be addressed immediately with the cabin master to arrange for future credit.

ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE

Everyone must register in the guest book upon arrival. Reservations must be paid for before staying at the cabin (unless special arrangements have been made with the cabin manager.) Please vacate rooms by 11:00am on date of departure.

COMMON AREA & STORAGE

PETS

Pets are not allowed in the Tahoe Cabin.

SMOKING

Smoking of any kind (including vaping) is not allowed inside the Tahoe cabin.

WHAT TO BRING

It is recommended that you bring a sleeping bag or sheets; pillow case and a towel. A limited amount of club bedding and linen are available but must be washed and dried prior to departure. Food is not provided, but the kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave and common spices, and there are nearby supermarkets. Wood for the cabin’s wood stove is usually available. To operate the wood stove, you should bring a firestarter or kindling, and some dry wood to get the fire started. The wood under the deck is not always dry, but can be used once you have a good fire going.

QUIET HOURS

Quiet hours are usually 10:00pm to 7:00 am. (The stairs can be noisy for those in the rooms, so please step lightly if you come in late or leave early!)

CHILDREN

Children are not to play on the stairs for safety and noise reasons.

This is your cabin, not a hotel. To make sure everybody enjoys the cabin at a reasonable rate, please ensure that you help out.

  • Cabin rates can remain low with your help!

  • All guests are expected to clean up after themselves.

  • Rooms should be cleaned and beds should be stripped.

  • If club bedding was used, it must be washed, dried, and put away.

  • Leave kitchen spotless after use; do not leave food in the refrigerator.

  • Apply bearproof lids to garbage cans at all times. (To prevent having to clean a big mess!)

Sauna Project

The YSC is equipping the Tahoe Cabin with a real Scandinavian sauna, the perfect treat for body and soul after a day out in the slopes.

To make this project happen we need your support! Please consider a small donation to the sauna fund, or buy a tile with custom engraving. A tile is a great opportunity to show your and your family’s support for the YSC and Scandinavian culture! To order a tile, please send an email to sauna@ysc.org to get an order form, or download it here. Your support is greatly appreciated!
